„My Daddy is weird/ My Mummy is difficult“ describes situations experienced by children in narcissistic homes. In its core it gives a child-friendly definition for the apparently inexplicable. Children of narcissistic parents are often left alone with their feelings or even isolated.
Nobody understands what they are trying to communicate to other people (youth welfare office, in court) looking for help. Not even caregivers they trust in understand what these children are trying to explain. In the worst case, the behaviour of the parents, which is perceived as strange, is blamed on the children. This makes them even less trusting their own feelings and remain isolated. The emotional consequences of an extensive distrust of oneself and of other people remain partly irreparable.
With devastating consequences for our society.
